A MESSAGE FROM STATE SENATOR JOHN CARONA
In Response to the GTP Post on 5/16/21
Please allow me to set the record straight on various misinformation recently posted:
First, a recent posting by one of your local members alleging that I “made fun of” the Tea Party in public comments at a recent DCRP event is simply incorrect. Those in attendance will tell you that no such comment was made. In fact, I have spoken admirably of the Tea Party in numerous speeches, noting that the emergence of the Tea Party is the single best thing to happen in American politics in a generation. I credit the Tea Party with the reawakening of the American public and the beginning of long overdue reforms in Washington, DC and elsewhere.
Second, it is no secret that I have long distrusted the motives of Senator Patrick and have questioned his opportunistic behavior on more than one occasion. Senator Patrick chose recently to initiate and make public a personal “dispute” without ever contacting me directly to discuss his allegations – which were patently false. His decision to do such a thing in such a manner speaks volumes.
Finally, I’d like to comment on this week’s Dallas Morning News story regarding Senator Royce West. Senator West and I have worked together on many issues of importance to ALL residents of Dallas County. He, like all members of the Texas Senate, has been welcomed into my home for a variety of events over the years. Recently, my wife and I were asked for use of our home for a gathering of his friends and supporters. We did not plan the event as a fundraiser, nor did we send out the invitations---and we made clear to everyone that we would not be making a financial contribution. The various news reports (and gossip) have been short on facts and long on accusations. In reality, my wife and I have given generously over the years to countless Republican candidates and have held dozens of major Republican events at our residence. I will always be a proud and committed Republican.
All of this said, I believe the professional relationship that Sen. West and I share has benefitted the community and assures that local matters are cared for without gridlock. We cannot end the nation’s bitter partisan rhetoric unless elected officials occasionally reach across the aisle to solve our most challenging issues. None of that suggests abandoning my ideology, nor does it reflect upon my record as a conservative.
In all my years of public service, I have never voted for a general tax increase, I am unapologetically prolife, have an A rating with the NRA, am supported by Texans for Lawsuit Reform, served as primary sponsor of the successful constitutional amendment requiring that all votes of the legislature be made public, and have authored literally dozens of bills to shrink and make more efficient our state government. This past year alone, I received high marks from groups including Texans for Fiscal Responsibility and Texas Conservative Coalition. As a father of five and CEO of a substantial business, I not only understand our conservative ideals, but I live them daily.
Thank you for allowing me to set the record straight, and for the opportunity to serve as your Republican State Senator. –John Carona
At the Reagan Day Dinner, Sen. Carona made fun of the Tea Party from the podium. In the past, Senator Carona has complained that the Tea Party shouldn't involved with their "business" in Austin.
Senator Carona is your unopposed elected member of the State Senate. Also, if Lt. Governor Dewhurst vacates his current seat, the Senate will have to appoint a memeber to the fill the Lt. Government positions until the 2014 election.

The SBOE sets policies and standards for what is taught in our public schools, so its makeup is vital to our state's future. Paraphrased From the Texas Education Agency:
The board adopts rules and establishes policies that govern a wide range of educational programs and services provided by Texas public schools. Together the board, the commissioner, and TEA facilitate the operation of a vast public school system. The board mandates curriculum standards and reviews and adopts instructional materials based on those standards.
SBOE also oversees investment of the Permanent School Fund, approves the creation of charter schools, and adopts regulations and standards for adult education programs provided by public school districts, junior colleges and universities.
Tornadoes tore through North Texas on Tuesday, ripping roofs from homes and businesses, tossing trucks into the air and leaving flattened tractor-trailers strewn along highways and parking lots.
The National Weather Service confirmed at least two separate "large and extremely dangerous" tornadoes hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Several other developing twisters were reported as a band of violent storms moved north through the metropolitan area.

Who is the ‘Consistent Conservative’ in the GOP Presidential Race?
In every Republican primary election, voters are treated to a steady stream of messages from the candidates’ propaganda machines. One campaign will declare “X is the one consistent conservative in the race,” spurring a rival campaign to reply that “X is not a conservative at all. Y is the consistent conservative.” The endless back-and-forth can make it very difficult for voters to sort the conservative “wheat” from the RINO “chaff.”
By The Numbers: ACU Ratings
It’s difficult to come by a consistent, objective yardstick by which to measure rival candidates, but one set of metrics often used by conservatives is the set of annual American Conservative Union (ACU) ratings for each federal legislator. For over 40 years, the ACU has been issuing annual ratings of every member of the U.S. House and every member of the U.S. Senate. The ratings are objective, based on each candidate’s voting record in the House or Senate, as appropriate. Legislators who consistently vote the conservative position receive high marks from ACU, while those who do not receive low marks. Notable consistent conservatives include Rep. Steve King (R-IA) (97% lifetime ACU Rating), Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) (98.67% lifetime ACU Rating) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (100% lifetime ACU Rating). On the other end of the spectrum, you’ll find folks like Sen. Arlen Specter (PA) (42.17% lifetime), Mark Kirk (IL) (58% lifetime) and Mike Castle (DE) (51.69% lifetime), all of whom are generally considered “RINOs”.
The following three graphs represent the ACU ratings for the three legislators (Santorum, Gingrich and Paul) in the GOP Presidential race:

If we can agree that ACU ratings serve as a reasonable yardstick by which to measure Republican legislators against one another, which of the graphs above best represents the voting record of a “True Conservative”?

Garland Patriots,
As you are all aware that the districts that the Republican Legislature designed during the 2011 legislative session have been rejected by the courts.
NOTE: The maps that were passed by the 82nd legislature and signed off on by Governor Perry were NOT the maps supported by the Texas Tea Party Caucus Advisory Board. Now, they have to deal with what the courts have given them.
This has caused confusion with new pairings in State House and Senate races, as well as Congressional Districts.
Here is a helpful link to verify what districts you are NOW located in, at least until the courts come up with a final map.
